The 15th vs The 1st
If your rent or mortgage payment due date changed from the 15th to the 1st, or vice versa depending, without notice, how would that impact you?
For many people it would be devastating. Over 50% of the American work force lives paycheck to paycheck.
I personally remember the nights, not too long ago, when I would go to bed at night not knowing how I would be able to pay my mortgage bill the next day. That means I’ve experienced what it was like to be in a constant state of mere survival and I know how the fear of “losing your shirt” can be paralyzing, literally and figuratively.
When your basic needs, shelter, food, clothing and health, are not met or are very close to being taken away from you, it’s nearly impossible to effectively focus on the “meaningful work” you are capable of completing.
I’m a big fan of taking worthwhile risks and pursuing the creation of something that is great for the world. The challenge of creating something remarkable is finding the balance of keeping your basic needs in a state of certainty while you endeavor to enter uncertain territory as you create.
Your creative life shouldn’t have to depend on which day of the month your bills need to be paid.
Protect your art. Get your personal affairs in order first, so you can focus on the bigger picture of what you want to create!
