As kids, my friends and I used to measure each other by how many toys we had or didn’t have.
As teens we used to measure each other by how many friends we had or didn’t have.
As young adults we used to measure each other by how cool or uncool our jobs were.
As quarter-lifers we used to measure each other by how stable or unstable our bank accounts were.
Now… (just around the corner from 36 years of life) it seems we measure each other by how busy we are….
I thought it was just me who was this busy, or maybe my generation, or perhaps only my circle of Type A personality friends. Nope. I look around and it seems that that is an epidemic. Almost zombie-like. Dare I say, a Dis-Ease.
Kids have it.
Parents have it.
Your boss has it.
The neighbors have it.
It’s contagious… It’s bad… real bad, and no one seems to be seeking the cure.
I’d like to propose we start measuring something other than “busy.” How abut how productive we are or how happy we are or how many people we impact?
Join me in “The Fight Against Busy!” While holding a conversation if someone gloats about how busy they are, change the measuring stick on them…
Cure the Dis-Ease.
