Happy New Year TrendErtainment Subscribers!
Let’s ring in the New Year together….

While Riding to Hebrew School:

As a tween, I listened with my dad to Anthony Robins and Brian Tracy cassette tapes on car rides. I got to hear all about N.L.P and Goal Setting on my way to school, the N.J. malls, and Hebrew School.  (Side note: my father is a subscriber to this blog and an inspirational teacher to thousands of young musicians.)

The tapes conditioned me to set goals and make mission statements. According to Anthony Robbins, this was “what you were supposed to do to have a successful life”. As a kid, you believe what you are told. So… Due to the brain washings, I associated pain with not setting goals. Every year, I would set my goals. The repetition did help: by the time I was 13, I had my own business, and by the time I was a senior in high school, I had a fully operational and profitable corporation.

What I Learned When I was 12 Years Old:

Goal setting can be as simple as writing down your top 3 things you want to achieve, or as complex as a full 10-year plan for life. Regardless to how you go about committing to your goals, the mere act of getting them down on paper and (possibly) sharing it with others brings a huge element of reality to your aspirations. To go really in-depth Google: goal setting here.

Just Do It:

I encourage you all to set a minimum of three big goals (RIGHT NOW!) that you would like to attain in your entertainment/arts career this year. I further challenge you to share them with the other readers of the TrendErtainment blog by listing them in the comments section below.
(Dad, I want you to participate in this exercise too!)

For those of you who don’t want to spend too much time on this TrendErtainment exercise, here is a basic set of instructions for simple goal setting:

1)    Pick up a pad of paper or pen (or open a new document on your computer).
2)    Write down the top three things you want to achieve in the next 365 days.
3)    Share these three thing or more in this blog
4)    Put your goals somewhere safe and review monthly (Give yourselves an evaluation on how your doing).

It is my GOAL to have a minimum of three readers list their entertainment goals in the comments section below. Perhaps another reader in this blog can help you attain your goal!
Go ahead, what do you have to lose?

I will even follow up with you every other month through the year to see how your progress is doing.

I'll show you mine, if you show me yours:

  3. MIC – I will help you to achieve your goal of getting three people to post their resolutions…
    1. Learn a new language
    2. Start my own blog (and poach readers from yours to build my community – MUAHAHAH)
    3. See more theater shows – maybe 1/month
    4. Write a movie script (already started this one!)
    5. Take a new employee under my wing
    6. Begin to raise money to open my own bar as well as move forward with finding a location and solidifying the idea.
    7. Think of 10 potential “new” business ideas (idea #1 – start a street teaming company with Michael Cedar – HA!).
    8. Run a half-marathon
    9. Develop my own project that will actually EARN money in 2009.
    10. Return MIC’s printer.

  4. MIC- “…and now, Michael Cedar’s goal for three posted goal sets…”
Well, it’s been awhile since I wrote my goals down, since they’re all current projects on my desk. I look at them and work towards them everyday. But I started out by writing them down, and it sort of morphed into a few folders I work on all the time. Writing them down really does work.
    GOALS:
    1. Become closer to God in what I think, say, and do everyday, and try to set a positive example for others to follow.
    2. Nurture my relationship with my fiance’ so our bond will become deeper, stronger, and more intimate, thus cementing the foundation of our marriage.
    3. Develop better relationships with the people that care about me and the people I care about by taking the time to listen, respond, and be there when they need me.
    4. Launch AudioUnderground, Inc. onto the World Wide Web by contracting with a reputable and capable designer and following through until the site is fully operational. Build it by signing up 50 artists by the end of the year.
    5. Earn my second Associate’s Degree from Kent State, this one in Computer Technology.

  5. They are not that huge… but, in no particular order:
    -Learn about AppleScript.
-Empty out the folder labeled “Deal with this later.” (Yes that is really what the folder is labeled) It is my procrastination destination. It contains nothing important, just a bunch of junk waiting for sorting…later.
-Take care of the “situation” in Vegas. What happened there, did not stay there… Enough said.
-Take more photos, without being one of those crazy camera people.

  6. It’s taken me a few days to get to this, but here is a short list of my goals for the New Year…
    1. Find employment in the coming year that is as fulfilling as my current position while also providing a learning curve for new skills. I can only hope to find colleagues as great as the ones I have.
    2. Blog on a more regular basis. My tour diary tends to suck up inordinate amounts of time, and by the time I’m finished, I’m spent for blogging. I will make a more concerted effort.
    3. Get my financial house the rest of the way in order – both liquid assets and longer-term investments, moving things around to be more advantageous long-term.
    4. Begin work on a new creative project.
